Abstract: Multiple studies have shown that health care professionals (HCPs) exhibit at least one type of weight bias and act differently towards their patients depending on their weight, despite swearing by ethical agreements. Weight biases result in HCPs having negative opinions of their patients, blaming any health issue on weight, and limiting personal connections with patients. Many times, the patient feels uncomfortable and stops care, resulting in their conditions worsening and creating even larger problems. However, there is hope for the future as an increase in education about the complexity of obesity and word choice used to describe it could reduce the stigma around weight.
